HeForShe Alliance highlights Vodafone action on gender equality and domestic abuse

The HeForShe Alliance Impact Report 2023, published this week, has highlighted Vodafone’s achievement in reaching 50/50 gender parity on its Board in 2022, with female representation up from 6% in 2021.

HeForShe’s annual report also celebrated the impact of Vodafone Foundation’s Bright Sky, a free to download mobile app that provides support and information to those concerned that someone they know is experiencing domestic abuse.

Bright Sky is now available across 13 countries in Europe, North America, Oceania, and Africa. It has seen more than 60,000 journal entry submissions, 100,000 service directory uses and 400,000 guide views. By using the app, survivors have reached help sooner than they would have done without it.

Vodafone also supports increasing public awareness of abuse and coercive control through public campaigns. This includes Vodafone Foundation’s “It’s not nothing” campaign, which has reached 17.1 million women globally.

In 2021, 17 Champions from across government, business, non-profit organisations, and academia formed the HeForShe Alliance dedicated to make gender equality happen in their own institutions.

Vodafone’s HeForShe Champion, Joakim Reiter, reinforced Vodafone’s commitment to prevent domestic abuse through its workplace policy, apps against abuse and research.

Joakim Reiter, Vodafone Chief Corporate & External Affairs Officer commented:

“Domestic abuse impacts almost one in three women globally. At Vodafone, our workplace policies, our Bright Sky app and the support and information we provide through our awareness campaigns demonstrate our continued support to prevent domestic violence and abuse. Vodafone will continue to expand the availability of Bright Sky targeting one million users by the end of 2023. In addition, we promote Bright Sky to thousands of our employees each year, providing training and increasing internal awareness.”
