We help people and businesses to achieve their potential through our products and services.
Support SMEs to thrive in a digital world
SOHOs (small office/home office) and SMEs (small and medium enterprises) are the lifeblood of many communities, providing opportunities for socio-economic participation, as well as social mobility for women, young people and ethnic minorities. They account for 90% of businesses, 60-70% of employment and 50% of GDP worldwide.
What we are doing
Through Vodafone Business, we provide products and services that are specifically tailored for SME and SOHO businesses, helping guide them through technology choices and improving their digital readiness.
To better support small businesses across Europe and Africa, Vodafone Business offers V-Hub, its digital advice service, providing access to online information and experts who offer one-to-one advice and support on digitally transforming businesses.
Beyond our direct customers, we are working to support SMEs in our supply chain. We offer optional supply chain financing, which allows suppliers to leverage Vodafone’s credit position to access cheaper funding and liquidity.
Driving financial inclusion
Financial access enables day-to-day life, improves productivity, and coping with unexpected difficulties. Financial inclusion is essential to reducing extreme poverty and delivering significant social benefits and economic opportunities. Globally, 1.7 billion adults do not have a bank account, but among them, an estimated 1.1 billion have a mobile phone. Digital services are key to helping people access safe, secure financial services.
What we are doing
Since 2007 we have been delivering financial inclusion through M-Pesa. M-Pesa, ‘M’ for mobile, and ‘Pesa’ the Swahili word for cash, was originally a novel concept that converts physical cash into e-money, allowing customers to make payments simply and securely.
M-Pesa has grown to over 56 million customers supported by half a million M-Pesa agents across seven African countries. It is Africa’s largest and most advanced fintech platform with 26 billion transactions – two and a half times more transactions than American Express, valued at $364 billion each year.
Digitalising public services
Digital government services play a major role in building greener, more inclusive and stronger societies. In the UK, Vodafone have deep-rooted partnerships with central government, local authorities, healthcare organisations and the police. Investment in digitalisation is vital to improving the public services, particularly important for the fields of health and education globally.
We aim to connect 75 million customers to mobile money and financial inclusion services by 31 March 2026.
