Since the 9th March 2020, schools and educational institutions across Albania have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the best efforts of Albania’s Ministry of Education to provide e-learning tools and platforms to children and youngsters across the country, many still faced being left behind due to limited internet access and a lack of technical devices.
Spotting an opportunity to support the Albanian government and to ensure all Albanian children continued to receive an education during the COVID-19 lockdown, the Vodafone Albania Foundation launched its #RedForKids initiative. Partnering with the Albanian Ministry of Education, Vodafone Albania donated 5,000 smart devices and SIM cards with unlimited online learning data access to those children most in need.
The #RedForKids initiative was launched on the 23rd April 2020 via a virtual press conference between the CEO of Vodafone Albania, Achilleas Kanaris, and the Albanian Minister of Education, Besa Shahini. Following extensive coverage of the initiative’s launch, 5,000 devices and 5,000 SIM cards have now been distributed to children and youngsters in Albania who would have otherwise continued to miss out on an education during the COVID-19 pandemic.
