Vodafone has again been recognised for its leadership on corporate transparency and performance on tackling climate change by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its prestigious annual ‘A List’.
CDP is a global non-profit organisation that runs the world’s only independent environmental disclosure system for companies, capital markets, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts.
Vodafone was recognised by CDP for its actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop the low-carbon economy, based on data reported by Vodafone through CDP’s 2024 climate change questionnaire.
Joakim Reiter, Vodafone’s Chief External & Corporate Affairs Officer, and Executive Member in charge of ESG, said: “Our inclusion in the CDP ‘A List’ reflects both our ongoing strategy to address climate change, but equally our commitment to transparency on progress.
“This includes the publication of our first Climate Transition Plan in 2024, setting out the actions we will take to drive progress towards net zero during FY25-27.”
CDP’s annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognised as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency, with the scores used to drive investment and procurement decisions.
In 2024 over 700 investors, equal to one quarter of all global institutional financial assets, requested companies disclose data through CDP’s platform on environmental impacts, risks, and opportunities . Over 24,000 companies from 130 countries responded, representing two-thirds of global market capitalization.
A detailed and independent methodology is used by CDP to assess these companies, allocating a score of A to D- based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets. Those that don’t disclose or provide insufficient information are scored an F.
In 2024, CDP overhauled its questionnaire to increase the granularity of the requested information and strengthen its alignment with relevant frameworks and standards. CDP also introduced new ‘essential criteria’ in 2024 to raise the bar on environmental performance across all sectors. Organisations must now score 80% across all sections of the disclosure to make the ‘A’ list.
The CDP ‘A List’ for 2024 will be published by CDP and publicly available later in 2025.
