2 minute read

Other key features of the new products include:

  • Unbreakable connection thanks to 4G broadband back-up: Ultra Hub will seamlessly switch to Vodafone’s leading 4G network in the event of an internet outage
  • More sustainable design: the plastic in product housing is 95% recycled. The packaging is made using 85% recycled materials and is 100% recyclable

Vodafone is the first major broadband provider in the UK to use the latest WiFi 6E technology. When combined with Vodafone’s full fibre footprint – the largest in the UK, with more than 9 million connected homes – Ultra Hub is capable of delivering the UK’s fastest WiFi technology throughout the home.

What is WiFi 6E technology?

There have been many evolutions of WiFi technology since it first became commonplace in the home. These are referred to by a simple numerical naming system – like mobile network generations (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G), the higher the number, the newer and more advanced the technology.

WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E, introduced in 2021, are the latest and most advanced versions of WiFi technology. There are only some routers (such as Ultra Hubs) capable of supporting it. Its focus is to improve reliability and minimise interference, particularly in homes and areas where there are many connected WiFi devices.

WiFi 6E works on the uncongested 6GHz frequency, alongside 2.4GHz and 5GHz used by previous generations. Rules about 6GHz usage vary depending which country you’re in, but any WiFi 6E router and device using it should see reliability improvements.

WiFi 6 and WiFi 6E can reach max speeds of between 600 and 9,608Mbps.
