Advancing the SDGs through Digital Transformation
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global call to action—but progress is at risk. Climate change, conflict, and economic disparity threaten to reverse gains. Digital connectivity and technology are powerful tools to bridge these gaps, creating opportunities for education, employment, and sustainable growth.
At Vodafone, we are committed to using our technology, services, and partnerships to accelerate progress towards the SDGs. From expanding mobile connectivity in underserved areas to pioneering digital financial services, we are shaping a more inclusive and sustainable world.
Bridging the Digital Divide
Reliable and affordable connectivity is the foundation of economic and social progress. By expanding mobile networks and increasing smartphone access, we empower individuals and communities to thrive.
Connectivity and digital services enhance healthcare, access to financial services, education and create more inclusive societies. Mobile health solutions, digital payments, education platform and other digital tools can transform lives.
Technology for a Greener Planet
Digital innovation is accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. IoT, AI, and smart technologies are reducing emissions, optimising energy use, and protecting biodiversity.
Partnering for Scale and Impact
Achieving the SDGs requires collaboration. Vodafone partners with governments, businesses, and NGOs to develop scalable, high-impact solutions. Initiatives like the UN International Telecommunications Union's Partner2Connect and our work with WWF to encourage a more circular economy for mobile devices highlight our commitment to sustainable innovation.
Vodafone is a founding member of the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Partner2Connect Digital Coalition (P2C), a multi-stakeholder alliance launched in September 2021. P2C aims to bridge the digital divide and accelerate progress toward the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by fostering meaningful connectivity and digital transformation.
We continue to develop our partnerships to address environmental challenges. Vodafone has donated over 250,000 phones through its partnership with WWF, supporting the "We Need the Phones You Don’t" campaign. The initiative aims to reduce e-waste by collecting and refurbishing old phones, which are then given to people in need, particularly those without access to affordable smartphones. The program also helps support environmental sustainability by promoting the circular economy and addressing the challenges of the digital divide.
By investing in connectivity, fostering digital inclusion, and championing responsible innovation, we are helping build a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable world.
Through connectivity, infrastructure, digital innovations and partnerships, we accelerate the delivery across many SDGs
