Ageing societies and the associated increase in long-term conditions such as dementia is putting enormous strain on care provision throughout Europe. To help tackle this challenge, Vodafone Business is adapting its market leading ‘App-Invent’ Internet of Things platform to improve the quality of care offered to those who need it most.
The platform gathers information from a range of IoT sensors installed in the homes of care recipients. Depending on their needs, these can include sensors to check if someone is at home, is taking their medicine or getting enough rest, as well as video conferencing facilities via television and SOS alert buttons. This information is then processed and analysed using 'Big Data' and artificial intelligence to interpret the needs of care recipients and allow carers to make decisions in real-time.
