World of Difference is Vodafone’s unique corporate giving initiative, which mobilises people to take time out and be paid to work for a charity of their choice. Managed by Vodafone Foundations, World of Difference currently operates in 22 countries around the world. There are over 2,100 winners to date with an active online community of over 250,000 fans across social media channels.
World of Difference in Australia launched in 2004 and there have been 38 winner to date. The 2012 campaign opened on 9 January with 5 places available for Australians to work for the charity of their choice for a year. The winners were announced on 11 April and started work on 1 May 2012.
The 'Hands Up' employee campaign launched in April 2012, with the opportunity for Vodafone Australia employees to take a 3 month secondment to work for a charity that they are passionate about.
New Zealand was the first market to launch World of Difference back in 2002. Over the 10 years it has been running there have been 90 winners. Applications from public and employees are submitted for July. Six winners are announced in October/November to work with any youth related charity for twelve months
World of Difference in India first launched in November 2011 and the first 20 winners were announced in January 2012. Currently it is an internal World of Difference programme, offering the opportunity for 20 Indian employees to take a 5 week secondment to work for charities across India. A programme open to the public will launch in September 2012
World of Difference first launched in Egypt in 2010. There have been 5 winners to date. Applications for one year placements open in February for 5 winners to work at pre-selected NGOs in Egypt.
World of Difference in Italy first launched in 2008 and has had 150 winners to date. The start dates for 6 months placements fall between June and September. The 2012 programme launched in January and the 62 winners who were announced in February will be working for charities both in Italy and abroad for three months.
World of Difference first launched in the UK in 2008, there have been 1522 winners to date. The programme offers 500 two month placements for winners to work for a UK charity of choice within the UK. Applications are open annually to the UK public from September to November, with placements commencing in March. The 2012 programme launches in September for placements in 2013.
World of Difference in the Czech Republic first launched in 2007 and has had 45 winners to date. Applications to work for a charity of choice for a year are made July to September with the winners being announced in October. All placements start in January the following year. Dates for the submission of applications for shorter, 3 month placements, are open three times a year.
World of Difference in Ireland first launched in 2007 and has had 50 winners to date. There are two phases to the World of Difference programme, the first launching in May 2012 for 4 student opportunities to work for a charity overseas for 3 months. The second phase will launch in August 2012 for four placements to work for a charity for one year.

Designed to appeal to those who wish to take a paid career break and use their skills and experience in the third sector, the programme is also popular with social entrepreneurs, supporting many in developing organisations whose primary focus is to deliver social change.
Managed by Vodafone Foundations, World of Difference currently operates in 22 countries around the world with over 2100 individual winners to date. An on line movement of 250,000 fans are following the programme via social media channels, mobilising and supporting the winners in their efforts to make a difference and deliver social change.
